My Mom’s Fall Pushed Me To Quit My 9-to-6 Auditor Job And Pursue Content Creation At 27

At 27, I made one of the most significant decisions of my life: leaving the security of a 9-to-6 job to pursue a full-time career in content creation after my mom’s fall. Right out of university, I started as an internal auditor, but after two years, I found myself yearning for something beyond the corporate ladder. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy my job—I did—but the routine of waking up, working long hours, and only truly living during evenings and weekends made me question if this was all life had to offer. I initially started my YouTube channel as a side hobby while working full-time. However, it was my mother’s fall that ultimately pushed me to pursue content creation as a career.Although the accident happened years ago, it still impacts her mobility today. Determined to fulfil her love for travel, I wanted to find a way to plan more trips with her before age made it even more challenging.I’ve been passionate about managing my money since I was 17, so it eventually became my main focus. My father instilled in me the habit of saving and investing early on, which shaped my approach to finances. In 2022, I began sharing my money management knowledge on social media, and seeing how valuable it was to others made it even more fulfilling. The messages I received from people telling me how my insights helped them kept me motivated. In a way, I’m grateful to have found a path that allows me to afford trips with my mom while doing something I love.No matter what the future holds, I see money as a tool for independence and freedom—two things I value most. The freedom to do what I love while spending time with the people who matter most to me.This article is part of TSS Confessions, a weekly column where we delve into personal finance topics that are unscripted and genuine real accounts from people.Demi Zhuang is a content creator and licensed financial consultant who loves to share tips and tricks on saving and budgeting.
